The National Running Show: Covered In Unicorn Snot
It’s hard to believe that we launched Flanci at the NRS in 2019. Look how far we have come! Remember those cardboard boxes and skorts with no pockets? Despite our inexperience, cobbled-together booth and minimal product range, you came, you bought and you continue to support us. So a massive thank you to those who have been with us from the start. You have made a crazy dream come true for us and for that we are forever grateful.
Fast forward to 2025! Back in our favourite spot next to the main entrance – there was no missing us when you walked through the door. Alfie & I plus some glamorous helpers. A big shout out to Alice, Andy, Annie, Karen, Paul aka Skorted Man and Steph who are all amazing ambassadors for our brand. They worked hard over the weekend introducing our new, light weight range of products. You could not miss us in our bright, over the top outfits - some would say we'd been sneezed on by a unicorn! We certainly stood out from the crowd and received lots of positive comments both for the bright ensemble as well as the individual products.
New things!
Our designer Jan excelled yet again with the new designs and these went down a storm!
Factory City
A Manchester themed design proved to be the most popular over the weekend. We sold out in several sizes – but don’t worry, there are more on order. Check out our Factory City range.
LDN
A recolour of our ever popular London Calling and for our newer customers was a hit, especially with those doing events in London or abroad. Shop the LDN collection.
Bonny Scotland
Day one of the show happened to be Burns night, so Bonny Scotland drew lots of attention, especially from our more northern customers.
Fin Frenzy
Karen one of our ambassadors has been a shark fan for years and pestering me for a shark design. Jan cleverly intertwined it into a camouflage design to create Fin Frenzy.
Moove It
The Moove It range is now also available in the lighter weight fabric as it's one of our most popular designs, especially with those who love parkrun tourism.
Also new at the show were our tech T-shirts! Another hit.
And how about the show itself?
The show itself has become hugely popular with the running community, the outstanding speakers being a huge draw. Top of the bill this year were Mo Farah, Jasmin Paris, Hardest Geezer, Denise Lewis and Spencer Matthews. Also there were the lovely Jo Pavey who is a favourite of mine, Susie Chan, Iwan Thomas, Damian Hall and Jenni Falconer to name but a few! A surprise appearance was also made by Paula Radcliffe.
Saturday proved to be very busy with no time for shopping at all. The halls were packed to the (Sally) gunnels with attendees. Every stage was full when speakers were up and for the most part every single exhibitor appeared to be extremely busy – we certainly were.
Sunday was less frenetic giving all of us a bit of down time to spend some money. If you were after running socks, clothing, back packs, poles, new races, nutrition you were in for a treat. The variety of shoe companies seemed to be down on last year and race event companies seemed to be up. Great for discovering new events. I was particularly taken by the Uganda Marathon after chatting to Steve Hill who is the organiser. The event is not just a race but a week long experience allowing you to connect and support charities, projects and community leaders across Uganda. There is also the opportunity to extend the trip to visit the Gorillas or a game reserve.
Watch us in action
A gigantic treadmill was available to those willing to jump on and run as fast as they could for 200m. Plenty of crash mats surrounded the machine for those who literally got spat off. Alice, Karen and I decided to run as a trio (slowly) – you can watch us in action on our Instagram. Place your bets on whether anyone falls on their face!
Oooh, a prize!
We ran a competition over the weekend for those coming to the stand wearing Flanci and we were delighted with how many of you turned up. Flanci wearers really did stand out over the weekend. The winner of the £50 voucher is Alan Gregg - look out for our email soon!
We'll be back!
Next year the show dates are 31 January – 1 February so look out for free Flanci tickets closer to the time. We have managed to secure the same spot as this year but a slightly bigger booth. The exciting news is that popular author Lisa Jackson will be basing herself on our stand and signing copies of her new running book.
See you next year!
